• It is a higher education program based on secondary education qualifications, covering an eight-semester program and providing education for a specific learning field or profession.
• The main goal of the Department of Biology is; to raise biologists who have the knowledge and skills to define, explain, apply, decide and teach the basic principles of biology and have all the authorities and responsibilities provided by law.

• Education and training are carried out in the form of formal, open or distance learning. In addition, practical training is provided in laboratories and workshops within higher education institutions or in industry, healthcare institutions and workplaces as internship or workplace training.

Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to

• Should have advanced theoretical and applied knowledge about the field of biology
• Should be able to use the current theoretical and applied information about the field of biology and transfer it to the relevant target audience
• Should be able to understand current facts and processes in the field of biology, compare them with similar ones, and produce solutions based on evidence
• Should be able to collect data for problems related to biology, analyze it, make hypotheses and evaluate the results
• Should be able to take an active role in the evaluation of cases related to the field of biology
• Should be able to plan and/or effectively carry out an activity in the field of biology independently or as a team leader
• Should be able to update the information about biology by questioning and be open to continuous learning
• Should be able to develop solutions to problems related to the field of biology and transfer them to the target audience
• Should be able to communicate verbally and/or in writing with their colleagues at national and international level using information technologies

Measurement and evaluation methods; Exam types and their contribution to the course success grade are determined by the senates of higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) on these issues.

Different methods such as homework, project, practice, midterm exam and final exam are used in measurement and evaluation.

Letter and/or number-based grading systems are used to evaluate student success. The process of recognition of prior education in Turkish higher education institutions is still in its early stages. For this reason, recognition of prior education has not been fully initiated in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University. However, exemption exams are held at the beginning of each semester for courses such as Basic Computer and English, which are included in the compulsory curriculum of the departments. Students who think that they have completed the learning process on their own from these courses or have achieved the learning outcomes in these courses in different ways have the right to take these exams. Students who take the exam and are successful are exempt from the relevant course in the curriculum.

For each course, students are subjected to a midterm exam, mid-term work (project, seminar, quiz, homework or a second midterm exam) and a final exam. The midterm exam and mid-term studies contribute 50% to the success grade, and the final exam contributes 50%. All exams are evaluated with an absolute score out of 100 points. It is mandatory to get at least 45 points from the final exam. Final grades are converted to letter grades. Students who receive one of the letter grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) from a course are considered to have succeeded that course. At the end of each semester, students can take the make-up exam for the courses they failed in that semester.

Each student must register for classes at the beginning of the semester and attend at least 70% of the lectures and 80% of the laboratories.

Requirements that students must meet in order to obtain a bachelor's degree in biology: a) Having taken a course equivalent to 60 ECTS per year and passed with at least a CC degree, b) Having obtained a weighted average of at least 2.0 out of 4.0.

The level of the degree is bachelor's degree.

Working style is full time.

Students who successfully complete all courses in the program (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS) and obtain a GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 are awarded a bachelor's degree in Biology.

In order to monitor the quality of higher education programs;

• YÖK is responsible for the planning, organization, management and supervision of education, training and other activities carried out in higher education institutions.

• "University Monitoring and Evaluation Reports" of higher education institutions, prepared every year within the framework of the criteria determined by YÖK, are published. Reports prepared according to these reports, containing quantitative and qualitative evaluations for higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK.

• Every year, YÖK publishes the "Foundation Higher Education Institutions Report", which includes academic, administrative and financial data of foundation higher education institutions. These reports, which include quantitative and qualitative evaluations of foundation higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK. Quality assurance of undergraduate programs in higher education is provided according to the "Procedures and Principles for Providing Quality Assurance of Higher Education Diploma Programs":

1. Creation and Approval of Curriculum:

1.1. YÖK determines the minimum standards and criteria required for the opening of undergraduate departments and programs in higher education institutions.

1.2. The curriculum of undergraduate programs in higher education institutions and the learning outcomes that each program will bring to the student are determined by the senates of higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK on these issues.

1.3. The curriculum of National Core Education Programs is implemented by higher education institutions with the approval of YÖK after being accepted by the relevant Deans Council.

2. Measurement-Evaluation: How to measure and evaluate the learning outcomes that each undergraduate program will provide to the student is carried out in accordance with the education, training and examination regulations prepared by higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK on these issues.

3. Certification: Students enrolled in undergraduate programs, if they successfully complete the course credits and other obligations determined by higher education institutions; receives a bachelor's degree.

4. Self-Evaluation-External Evaluation: In the context of continuous monitoring, higher education institutions enter the "Institution Internal Evaluation Reports" of the previous year into the Information System prepared by the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK) at the beginning of each year. The "Institutional Feedback Report" prepared by YÖKAK regarding the external evaluation of higher education institutions is shared with the public. In addition, accreditation decisions made by accreditation bodies authorized or recognized by YÖKAK also show that the quality assurance of the qualifications of the programs is ensured. It carries out regular review activities regarding the qualifications determined in accordance with the YÖKAK legislation.

• To have graduated from secondary education institutions or foreign secondary education institutions whose equivalence is approved by the Ministry of National Education and to have met the conditions for admission to undergraduate programs of higher education institutions.
• The selection of foreign students who have completed high school or equivalent secondary education in their country is made through a central exam called Foreign Student Examination (YÖS), which is held once a year.
• To be placed in the relevant undergraduate program of the higher education institution as a result of the central examination conducted by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), the procedures and principles of which are determined by YÖK.
• To have received sufficient points as a result of the central exam conducted by ÖSYM and to have passed the special talent exam for the programs of higher education institutions that accept students through special talent exam, the procedures and principles of which are determined by YÖK.
• As a result of the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) conducted by ÖSYM, the procedures and principles of which are determined by YÖK, associate degree graduates are placed in undergraduate programs that are a continuation of the fields they have completed in higher education institutions.

• Those who have a bachelor's degree can continue with master's programs and, if they meet the relevant conditions, doctoral and art proficiency programs accepted with a bachelor's degree.
• Undergraduate students have the right to participate in double major programs opened by our university. Students enrolled in double major programs can take courses from two diploma programs simultaneously and, if successful, receive two separate undergraduate degrees.
• Our graduates can be employed in universities, public and private hospitals (laboratories, in vitro fertilization units, genetic diagnosis centres), private sector (private laboratories in the field of sequence analysis, vaccine development, food and pharmaceutical factories, R&D and/or sales representatives and environmental consultant), Ministries (Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Agriculture and Forestry, Health, Tourism), Refik Saydam Hygiene Center, forensic medicine ınstitutes, General Directorate of Security, Şap Institute, tourism facilities, fisheries ınstitutes, TÜBİTAK, Ministry of National Education ( If they receive a training certificate, they can work as teachers) and in municipalities.
