- Yaratıcı, ayrıksı, yinelemeli özellikleri gösteren insan dilinin diğer canlı iletişim sistemlerinden farkını kavrar.
- Tüm dillerin yapısının, görünürdeki farklılıklarının aksine, evrensel prensiplerle açıklanabildiğini kavrar.
- Dillerin sistematik ve bilimsel inceleme metotlarını kavrar.
- Dilbilimin sesbilgisi, sesbilimi, biçimbilimi, sözdizimi, anlambilimi alt alanlarında teorik ve uygulama becerilerini kazanır.
- Dilbilim çalışmaları ile psikoloji, sosyoloji, felsefe, antropoloji gibi alanlardaki çalışmalar arasında disiplinler arası bağlantı kurabilir.
- Ana dilleri olmayan bir dil üzerine alan çalışması yapıp, tanımlama ve açıklama düzeyinde dil belgelemesi yapabilirler.
- Konuşulan dilin dünyayı algılayış şeklini etkileyebileceğini kavrarlar.
- Dilbilim alanında literatür tarama, dilbilimsel sorunları analiz etme becerisine sahip olur.

- The students comprehend the difference between human language faculty, which is creative, discreet and recursive, from animal communication skills The students comprehend that no matter how different all languages seem, their structure can be explained via universal principles.
- The students comprehend the methods for investigating languages systematically and scientifically.
- The students attain theoretical and applied research skills on the subfields of linguistics such as phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics The students can associate the studies in linguistics with studies in other fields of social sciences such as psychology, sociology, philosophy and anthropology.
- The students can carry out field research on languages other than their native languages and they can describe and explain the linguistic properties of these languages.
- The students comprehend that the language they speak can shape the way they perceive the world.
- The students can carry out literature survey and theoretical analysis on linguistic issues.
- The students can work on phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics of modern Turkish.
- The students can compare and contrast the linguistic properties of Turkish with other languages or dialects.
