The aim of the undergraduate curriculum of Department of Food Engineering is to

train students to meet the challenges associated with their particular career paths, and to adapt to the rapidly changing technologies. The curriculum is structured to provide the students with technical skills, engineering insights and problem solving abilities, and to prepare its graduates as educated, responsible, and environmentally sensible citizens. Graduates can work in private or public institutions and organizations in the national/international food sector with their knowledge of Food Engineering. They receive graduate education at universities in the relevant field. They work as researchers in universities and research centers with their lifelong learning skills.

Education and training are carried out in the form of formal, open or distance education. In addition, practical training is provided as internships or workplace training in laboratories and workshops within higher education institutions or in industry, healthcare institutions and workplaces.

This program is delivered in English.

• Adequate knowledge in mathematics, science and engineering subjects pertaining to the relevant discipline;
• Ability to use theoretical and applied knowledge in these areas in the solution of basic and complex engineering problems
• Ability to identify, define, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems
• Ability to select and apply proper analysis and modeling methods for this purpose
• Ability to design a complex system, process, device or product under realistic constraints and conditions, in such a way as to meet the desired result

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading Students are required to take at least one mid-term exam and one final exam in each semester. Quizzes can be given without prior notice. The criteria such as quizzes, mid-terms and final exams and assignments which are taken into consideration for evaluation and the ratio of the criteria are distributed through course syllabuses to the students in the beginning of each semester or announced on the website. Dates, places and times of final examinations are determined and declared to the students by the Institution. Final grades of the students are determined by the instructor of related course according to the assessment after considering mid-term and final examination results, term studies, and attendance of the student. If there are courses not requiring any mid-term or final exams, these courses are determined by the related Heads of Departments and informed to the Registrar’s Office. Semester studies of the students are taken into account for the final grades of these courses. Course grades for the end of term are submitted to the Registrar’s Office by the lecturer. Grades The instructor gives one of the letter grades below as the semester course grade to the student taking related course. Coefficients and percentage equivalents of the letter grades are indicated below. - Between 90- 100, semester grade is AA and coefficient is 4.00 - Between 85- 89, semester grade is BA and coefficient is 3.50 - Between 80- 84, semester grade is BB and coefficient is 3.00 - Between 75- 79, semester grade is CB and coefficient is 2.50 - Between 70- 74, semester grade is CC and coefficient is 2.00 - Between 65- 69, semester grade is DC and coefficient is 1.50 - Between 60- 64, semester grade is DD and coefficient is 1.00 - Between 50- 59, semester grade is FD and coefficient is 0.50 - 49 and below, semester grade is FF and coefficient is 0 Success Criteria Students have to obtain at least (DD) from a course in any semester in order to be considered successful for that course. Besides, students need a GPA and Cumulative GPA (CGPA) of at least 2.00 in order to be considered successful in a year. At the end of each semester, students obtaining a GPA of 3.00-3.49 with a normal semester course load at minimum are considered “Honor Students” and those obtaining a GPA of 3.50-4.00 are considered “High Honor Students” for that term. Repeating Courses Students having received an “NA” (non-Attendance) “FF”, “FD”, or “W” (Withdrawal) or “U” (Unsatisfactory) in any course or those not having followed the course during its regular semester must repeat it in the first semester the course is offered again. If these courses are elective courses or ones deleted from the curriculum, students have to take one of the other courses that are considered equivalent by the relevant Heads of Department. Repeating the Semester Undergraduate students who could not obtain a CGPA and / or GPA of 2.00 are considered unsuccessful. Unsuccessful students in their second semester or above must have a CGPA of at least 1.80 including the semester they have already registered so that they can continue their education. Otherwise, they have to repeat the courses they have already taken until they increase their CGPA to 1.80.In order to graduate from this program, the students are required to succeed in all of the courses listed in the curriculum of the program and to have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.00 out of 4.00.(Within the scope of the Bologna Process, students are expected to have completed at least 240 ECTS credits at the end of their undergraduate education.)

In order to monitor the quality of higher education programs;

YÖK is responsible for the planning, organization, management and supervision of education, training and other activities carried out in higher education institutions.

"University Monitoring and Evaluation Reports" of higher education institutions, prepared every year within the framework of the criteria determined by YÖK, are published. Reports prepared according to these reports, containing quantitative and qualitative evaluations for higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK.

Quality assurance of undergraduate programs in higher education is provided according to the "Procedures and Principles for Providing Quality Assurance of Higher Education Diploma Programs":

1. Creation and Approval of Curriculum:

1.1. YÖK determines the minimum standards and criteria required for the opening of undergraduate departments and programs in higher education institutions.

1.2. The curriculum of undergraduate programs in higher education institutions and the learning outcomes that each program will bring to the student are determined by the senates of higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK on these issues.

1.3. The curriculum of National Core Education Programs is implemented by higher education institutions with the approval of YÖK after being accepted by the relevant Deans Council.

2. Measurement-Evaluation: The measurement and evaluation of the learning outcomes of each undergraduate program is carried out in accordance with the education, training and examination regulations prepared by higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK on these issues.

3. Certification: Students that enrolled to the undergraduate programs receives a bachelor's degree, if they successfully complete the course credits and other obligations determined by higher education institutions.

4. Self-Evaluation-External Evaluation: In the context of continuous monitoring, higher education institutions enter the "Institution Internal Evaluation Reports" of the previous year into the Information System prepared by the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK) at the beginning of each year. The "Institutional Feedback Report" prepared by YÖKAK regarding the external evaluation of higher education institutions is shared with the public. In addition, accreditation decisions made by accreditation bodies authorized or recognized by YÖKAK also show that the quality assurance of the qualifications of the programs is ensured. It carries out regular review activities regarding the qualifications determined in accordance with the YÖKAK legislation.

Students are placed into this program with the score they get from the exam called YKS (the Exam for the Higher Education Council) carried out by ÖSYM (assessment selection and placement center).

Graduates of the program can continue their master degree at national or abroad universities. Graduates can find job at govermental and private sector positions.
