- İktisat alanında yeni ve karmaşık fikirlerin eleştirel analizini, sentezini ve değerlendirmesini yaparak, güncel gelişmeleri ve hazırladığı çalışmaları, alan içi ve dışındaki gruplara, yazılı, sözlü ve görsel olarak aktarabilme bilgisine sahip olunması.
- Matematiksel, istatistikîive ekonometrik analiz araçlarını kullanarak hem ulusal hem de uluslararası mikro ve makro ekonomik göstergeleri analiz ederek öngörülerde bulunabilme.
- Kamu ve özel sektörde ihtiyaç duyulan uzman ve araştırmacıların sahip olması gereken ileri düzeyde iktisat teorisi, iktisat politikası ve uluslararası iktisat bilgilerini yorumlayabilme ve kullanabilme becerisinin edinilmesi.
- Gelecekteki istihdam olanakları ve akademik çalışmalar için faydalı olabilecek becerilerin elde edilmesi.
- Doğru bir araştırma sorusu sorabilme yeteneği kazanılarak ekonomi alanında yenilik getiren bir yüksek lisans tezi yazmak.
- Araştırmalarını yapabilmek için gerekli her türlü kaynağı ve veriyi nereden, nasıl ulaşacağı bilgisine sahip olma. İktisat alanının gerektirdiği düzeyde bilgi ve iletişim teknolojilerini kullanma yeteneğine sahip olma, sözlü ve yazılı iletişim kurabilme, problem çözebilme ve edinilen bilgilerin aktarımını sağlayabilme.
- Mesleki ve etik sorumluluk bilincine sahip rasyonel bir birey olabilme ve bilimi rehber edinebilme ve bu doğrultuda iktisat alanı ile ilgili çalışmalarda toplumsal, bilimsel ve etik değerleri gözeterek bu değerleri öğretebilme ve denetleyebilme.
- Doktora eğitimi süresince ihtiyaç duyacağı ileri düzey uzmanlık için gerekli bilimsel bilgi ve beceri altyapısını ifade eden bir formasyona sahip olunması. İktisat alanında bir yabancı dili kullanabilme ve yabancı literatürü takip edebilerek hazırladığı akademik çalışmalarını ulusal veya uluslararası toplantılarda sunabilme.
Sınavların ölçme ve değerlendirilmesinde Erzurum Teknik Üniversitesi Lisansüstü Eğitim-Öğretim ve Sınav Yönetmeliğinin 20. Maddesi esas alınmaktadır.
