Further Info | Department of English Language and Literature Undergraduate Programme consists of 8 semesters. Each semester is designed to have a 30-ECTS course load, which makes a total of 240 ECTS for the entire programme. Moreover, as another graduation requirement, the students must pass the common compulsory courses of the university that are indicated in the programme (courses with the codes AİT, TUR and ENF). All undergraduate courses are one-semester courses, and they are offered only in particular semesters. In principle, the courses with uneven number codes are offered in autumn semester, while those with even number codes are offered in spring semester. There are no courses with pre-requisites in the undergraduate programme; however, it is highly recommended that the students enrol for the successive courses in their order. The departmental undergraduate courses are theoretical; however, through in-class activities and home assignments, the application of the knowledge acquired in the courses is intensively supported. In general, the first and the second year compulsory courses are designed in order to enable the student to acquire the very basic knowledge and skills in relation to the field of study, while the third and the fourth year courses are designed to study the genres, periods, the representative authors and works of English literature in the light of the acquired knowledge and skills. The departmental elective courses, on the other hand, are designed to address the needs of those students who incline to other fields, such as “Translation,” “British Cultural Studies,” and “American Culture and Literature.” | |

Access Requirements | Students are required to hold a valid high school diploma issued by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of National Education, or other international diplomas authorised by the Ministry of National Education to register for the Undergraduate Programme. Students should succeed in the Language 1 test of the National Student Selection and Placement Test. Entry requirements for the international students: International Students should comply with the requirements of the Regulations of Admission for the International Students of the Turkish Higher Educational Council, and the Criteria for Admitting International Students announced by Hacettepe University per academic year. | |
Conditions for Success | The students who successfully complete their studies receive an undergraduate diploma and the title of English philologist. It is required to satisfy the necessary conditions indicated in Hacettepe University Associate Degree, Undergraduate Degree Academic Education and Exam Regulations, article 30; complete at least 102 national credits of the departmental compulsory courses including the common compulsory courses (93 credits of departmental compulsory courses – 9 credits of common compulsory courses); complete 26 credits of elective courses, including at least 12 national credits of departmental elective courses. It is also required to complete a total of 240 ECTS of the courses and achieve at least 2.00 grade point average out of 4.00. | |
