Key Learning Outcomes;

Graduates of the programs will be able to;

1. be acquainted with major literary genres and with some of the prominent examples of each genre.
2. be acquainted with the different theoretical and methodological approaches employed in the study of literary works.
3. be acquainted with the historical transformation of Western literature and modern Turkish literature.
4. comprehend literary studies’ connection with philosophy, history and the social sciences.
5. develop a capacity for critical thinking and argumentation in addition to an ability to synthesize diverse data, opinions and approaches.
6. present the knowledge acquired and the results of research in one’s own words, in proper academic format.
7. develop an awareness of and interest in social issues.

Supplementary Learning Outcomes;

Graduates of the programs will be able to;

1. improve oral and written expression in English and Turkish.
2. work individually or as part of a group to access reliable information, to evaluate sources and to do independent research using proper research methods.
3. improve and use his/her knowledge, skills and capabilities in an ethically responsible way so as to serve personal and social goals.
4. acquire and practice public debate etiquette and skills in scholarly and social issues.
5. use proficiently computer software related to his/her area of specialty, as well as basic IT technologies.

(1) High School Diploma (2) Placement through a nation-wide Student Selection and Placement Examinations (3) Certificate of Istanbul Bilgi University English Language Exam (BILET) or acceptable score of TOEFL or similar internationally recognised exams (4) For graduates of short-cycle degree programmes from the same or related fields of studies of vocational schools (MYOs), placement through a nation-wide Vertical Transfer Examination (Dikey Geçiş Sınavı) (5) For foreign students, placement by direct applications of candidates to the university and assessment by the university within the frameworks of the publicly available national and institutional regulations published on the university’s web site

Academic career, editorship, translation, advertisement/copy writing, media and communication (especially writing for film and television), public relations, human resources and all other occupations that require analytical thought, creativity, comprehensive cultural knowledge and advanced writing skills. .

Qualification is valid indefinitely.
