1. The aim of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of Istanbul Arel University is to introduce the principles of molecular biology and genetics at an advanced level and to train qualified graduates with up-to-date theoretical and applied knowledge and strong intellectual competence in this field.
2. To adopt universal ethical values, independent and critical thinking.
3. To gain competence in research, lifelong learning and finding solutions to social problems.
4. To gain the equipment to work as an academician in national or international academic institutions and organizations or as a qualified personal in research centers, various industrial organizations (biomedical, biotechnology), pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology and genetic engineering application and research centers, genetic diagnosis centers, İn Vitro fertilization centers.

• Learning takes place in the form of formal, open or distance education. In addition, practical trainings are carried out as internships or workplace training in laboratories and industry, health institutions and workplaces within higher education institutions.

• Define the concepts related to Molecular Biology and Genetics at an advanced level.
• Have the necessary theoretical and applied knowledge for specialization in the field of Molecular Biology and Genetics.
• Recognize living systems and biological mechanisms in terms of diversity, structure and function.
• Relate the principles of genetics to the hereditary problems by defining them.
• Comprehend the functioning and properties of the mechanisms in cell molecular biology.
• Apply the theoretical knowledge and approaches in different fields of basic and applied sciences to solve the complex problems related to Molecular Biology and Genetics.
• List the Molecular techniques required for laboratory analysis related to the field.
• Take responsibility both as a team member and individually in order to provide that unforeseen Complex activities faced in the practices in his/her field are carried out.
• Conduct advanced studies in his/her field independently.
• Manage activities for the development of his/her subordinates within the framework of a project.
• Take responsibility to collect, interpret, analyze, apply and publish the data related to his/her field.
• Take responsibility both as a team member and individually in order to provide that his/her knowledge and skills transformed into ideas/approaches/practices/technologies/products that have a strong social/cultural/economic value assessing risks and opportunities in his/her field; develop entrepreneurial competence as a team member and individually.
• Follow national and international scientific and technical developments in the field of Molecular Biology and Genetics with the awareness of lifelong learning.

Assessment methods together with teaching and training methods most frequently used at the educational programmes of the University are given below. Programmes utilize most of these methods as appropriate in order to intended learning outcomes in accordance with their educational aims and objectives to be achieved.

The assessment methods applied for assessment of the achievement of the expected programme learning outcomes for the entire programme of Department of Computer Engineering , in particular, are ticked in the list below and those for each individual course unit are given in the relevant section of the course descriptions with their contribution to the final grades.

Students are subject to a final exam, other than the exams they have taken and the studies they have been involved in. Each semester, students are given at least one mid-term examination. Apart from mid-term examinations, quizzes can be given without announcing a specific date. The criteria (quiz, mid-term, assignment, final exam, etc.) and the ratio taken into consideration for success assessment in the courses are stated in the syllabi distributed to the students at the beginning of each semester and/or published on the web site. Final examinations are made in dates, places and times determined and announced by the University. The students’ final semester grade is given by their instructors based on mid-term and final examination results, semester studies, and compliance with attendance regulations.
Courses, which do not require mid-term and/or final examinations, are determined by the related Heads of Departments/ School Directors, and the Registrar’s Office is informed accordingly. Final grades for such courses are given based on their coursework throughout the term. The end of semester course grade is submitted to the Registrar’s Office by the lecturer with success evaluation criteria. The semester grades become final after being announced by the Registrar’s Office.

For each course that the students take, the raw grade appreciated by the instructor at the end of the term is transformed into the following equivalent letter grade by being based on one of the relative evaluation, instructor appreciation and directly grade transformation evaluation system.

ECTS and letter grades’ coefficients and their provisions over 100 points have been shown below:

Success Grades
The students whose success grade is AA, BA, BB, CB and CC from a course pass that course directly. For the students to be regarded to pass the course from which they get the grade of DC and DD, it is required that the SGA of all courses in the semester in which that course is taken must be at least 2.00. In case these conditions are not satisfied, the students getting the grades of DD and DC are regarded to fail in these courses. The students whose YEGA is 2.00 and higher at the end of the summer term for the students continuing their education in the end of the spring term or summer term are regarded to be successful in the courses from which they get the grade of DD and DC in both semester.

Successful Students
Students whose Cum GPA are at least 2.00 in any semester are considered successful. Students who obtain a GPA of 3.00-3.49, at the end of the semester with at least a normal semester course load, are considered "Honor Students" and those who obtain a GPA of 3.50-4.00 are considered "High Honor Students".

Also, from the letter grades;

I Grade incomplete (Incomplete); is given to the students who have not completed the required conditions excluding the attendance for the course in which they are successful in the semester. In case the student takes the grade of I from any course, s/he is obliged to get a grade by completing his/her deficiencies within two weeks as of the announcement date of the grades. This duration can be extended with the decision of the management board. Otherwise, the grade of I is transformed into the grade of FF.

E Grade of exemption (Exempted); is given to the ones being successful in the exemption examination and the ones coming with the lateral and vertical transfer and the courses which have been taken and have been successfully completed while getting education in another higher education institution previously. The grades of E are not included to the average calculations.

NA Grade of absenteeism (Not Attended); is given to the students who cannot realize the attendance conditions. In the evaluations, it is processed as the grade of FF.

S Grade of being successful (Successful); is given to the students who are successful in the thesis studies. Also the grade of S is used in the situation of being successful for the courses taken without credit such as the term project, field, clinic and laboratory studies and seminars. The grade of S is not included to the general grade average.

U Grade of being unsuccessful (Unsuccessful); is given to the students who are unsuccessful in the thesis studies. Also the grade of U is used in the situation of being unsuccessful for the courses taken without credit such as the term project, field, clinic and laboratory studies and seminars. The grade of U is not included to the general grade average.
Objection To The Exam Results

In İstanbul Arel University, students can raise their objection to any exam results with a petition to be filled and submitted to the relevant Dean's office and directorate in five working days following announcement date of the exam results at the latest. The objection shall be evaluated by the relevant lecturer in three working days following the announcement of objection to him/her. Result of the re-evaluation shall be reported to the relevant dean’s office or directorate with a justified and written report. Dean's office and directorate shall transfer the result of objection to the Registrar's Office in written.

To oversee the quality of higher education programs;

- YÖK is responsible for planning, organizing, managing and supervising education and training and other activities in higher education institutions.

- "University Monitoring and Evaluation Reports" of higher education institutions prepared within the framework of the criteria determined by YÖK are published every year. The reports prepared according to these reports, including quantitative and qualitative evaluations of higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK.

- "Foundation Higher Education Institutions Report" containing academic, administrative and financial data of foundation higher education institutions is published annually by CoHE. These reports, which include quantitative and qualitative evaluations of foundation higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK. Quality assurance of undergraduate programs in higher education is ensured according to the "Procedures and Principles for Ensuring Quality Assurance of Higher Education Diploma Programs":

1. Creation and Approval of Curricula: YÖK determines the minimum standards and criteria required for the opening of undergraduate departments and programs in higher education institutions.

1.1. The curriculum of undergraduate programs in higher education institutions and the learning outcomes that each program will provide to the student are determined by the senates of higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK on these issues.

1.2. The curricula of the National Core Curricula are adopted by the relevant Council of Deans and implemented by higher education institutions with the approval of the Council of Higher Education.

2. Assessment and Evaluation: The measurement and evaluation of the learning outcomes of each undergraduate program is carried out according to the teaching and examination regulations prepared by higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK on these issues.

3. Certification: Students enrolled in undergraduate programs, if they successfully complete the course credits and other obligations determined by higher education institutions; receive a bachelor's diploma.

4. Self-Assessment-External Evaluation: Higher education institutions, in the context of continuous monitoring, enter the "Institutional Internal Evaluation Reports" of the previous year into the Information System prepared by the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) at the beginning of each year. YÖKAK shares the "Institutional Feedback Report" prepared for the external evaluation of higher education institutions with the public. In addition, accreditation decisions issued by accreditation bodies authorized or recognized by YÖKAK also indicate that the quality assurance of the qualifications of the programs is ensured. YÖKAK conducts regular review activities regarding the qualifications determined in accordance with the legislation.

Association for Curriculum Evaluation and Accreditation of Science, Literature, Science-Literature, Language and History-Geography Faculties (FEDEK)

The admissions of students to this programme is made according to the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM – University Entrance Exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (YÖK). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Centre about what programme they would like to study at, students are placed in the related programme according to their scores they got from the exam.

International (foreign) students are accepted to this undergraduate programme according to the score of one of internationally acceptable exams they take such as SAT, ACT etc. or according to their high school diploma score.

Exchange student admission is accepted according to the requirements determined by bilateral agreements signed by İstanbul Arel University and the partner university. Guest students may enroll into the courses in this programme, if the related academic unit approves all requirements. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the programme.

Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to second cycle (master's) and in some cases, to third cycle (doctorate) degree programmes in or related fields of. According to the National Regulations on Graduate Education, students are admitted to second cycle (master’s) degree programmes taking into account their first cycle degree CGPA achievement and/or the score obtained from the subject-specific "Academic and Graduate Education Entry Examination (ALES)" centrally administered nation-wide by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Within the framework of the national regulations, regulations endorsed by the senate of each university stipulate the weight of ALES Examination results in the overall evaluation of candidates. Depending on the institutions' regulations, for some programmes to be accessed, a certain level of foreign language proficiency is also required. In the overall evaluation of candidates, scores obtained from ALES Examination are allotted a minimum score of 55 and a weight of 50% for the second cycle (master's) programmes, which require a thesis work. ALES score is not compulsory and may not be taken into account for accessing to the second cycle (master's) programmes, which do not require a thesis work.
