Forestry and Forest Products has a basic knowledge related to the fields. Ability to understand the basic principles of ecological units in a forest and relations and interactions between these units. Ability to make the ecosystem-based interventions for the maintenance and improvement of existing forests, the creation of new forest areas. Knowledge on national and international forestry policies, laws and obligations. Gain the ability to use information tehnologies, calculation measurement and statistical analysis tools. Knowledge on how to use the new technologies and methods in forestry science. Skilled at using of the knowledge and skills to manage staff, to identify, analyze encountered problems and develop solution proposals as a team member taking responsibility in applications related to the field. Knowledge on the general principles of ethics in forestry profession and sensitivity to environmental issues, occupational health and safety issues. Ability to apply some scientific techniques for the management, planning, the protection and balanced use of the forest resources in the sustainability approach. Ability on how to detect new solutions to the local or global-scale problems, and become competitor at the environmental and forestry issues in national and international stage. Ability on how to use the gained knowledge for the benefit of the national forestry and follow current developments at ecological, economic and social dimension in forestry field with the principle of lifelong learning. Ability to apply techniques to protect the existence and nature of the forest ecosystem against biotic and abiotic threats.

Each student must attend the courses, applied studies, laboratories, projects, seminars, workshops, graduation projects and other studies of the semester s/he is enrolled for. Students who have not attended at least 70 % of theoretical courses and 80 % of applied and laboratory studies are not allowed to take the final exam of those courses. Examinations are generally in written form. However, the instructor of the course may decide to conduct the exam in the form of an oral exam, project or assignment on condition that s/he states it on the course information form (syllabus). Examinations are arranged and conducted by the instructors teaching the courses. A make-up exam is given to students with certified excuses accepted by the relevant executive board within seven days after the final examinations are over.Each course is assessed via a midterm exam end an end-of-term exam, with the contributions of 40%, and 60% respectively. The marking is made out of 100 points. All students have to get 45 points in the end-of-term exam. Grades of AA, BA, BB,CB, and CC are pass, DD to FF fail, and DC is conditional pass and requires a CGPA of at least 2.0 for that term.Students must achieve 120 ECTS credits during the four – semester study which includecompulsory and elective courses specified in training plans and must complete a 30-day internship in the summer.

Students admission to higher education is based on a nation-wide Student Selection Examination (ÖSS). The examination is held once in a year and is administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to institutions of higher education based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the selection examination and their high school grade point averages.

Graduates of this department work at private and public sectors such as Ministry of Forestry and water affairs. In addition, forestry and forest products department of qualified graduates is becoming increasingly popular in the private sector.
