Istanbul Aydın University Guidance and Psychological Counselling (PDR) Undergraduate Programme offers a comprehensive education prepared with an interdisciplinary approach. The aim of the programme is to train professional psychological counsellors who can support the academic, career, personal and social development of individuals, adhere to ethical principles, are sensitive to cultural differences and follow scientific developments in their field.

The learning process is carried out in formal education format. In addition, practical trainings are carried out in the classrooms within the faculty, in individual counselling and group counselling rooms or within the scope of field internships.

• Students who successfully complete the programme gain the following competencies:
• Explains the concepts related to the field of guidance and psychological counselling.
• Has the ability to access scientific knowledge in the field of guidance and psychological counselling, to follow, evaluate and apply current literature and developments. 
• Recognise cultural differences and diversity at national and international level and demonstrate a sensitive approach to these differences in their professional processes. 
• Knows basic psychological counselling theories, techniques and principles and applies them in the counselling process. 
• Applies the skills of the field in a wide range from orientation to vocational guidance, from educational guidance to individual counselling in accordance with the needs of the clients. 
• Provides education and counselling services for families, teachers and other stakeholders by using the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the field. 
• Acts in accordance with ethical principles and professional standards in psychological counselling processes. 
• Plans and implements psychological counselling services that will contribute to the individual, educational and professional development of the clients they serve. 
• Solves the problems he/she may encounter in his/her profession by following systematic and scientific problem solving steps. 
• Organises guidance and psychological counselling services in accordance with the developmental periods and individual differences of the individual. 
• Knows various psychological counselling theories and applies them by choosing appropriate approaches to different client groups. 
• Plans and applies the techniques to be used in individual and group counselling processes. 
• Knows the test and non-test techniques used in psychological counselling services and uses these techniques to get to know the individual. 
• Evaluates the local conditions of the institution and the environment and prepares and implements guidance and psychological counselling programmes appropriate to these conditions. 
• Has the ability to plan, implement and evaluate guidance and psychological counselling services in educational institutions. 
• Uses human relations, communication and empathy skills effectively in the psychological counselling process. 
• Applies counselling techniques and skills in different psychological counselling environments (education, health, industry, etc.). 
• Conceptualises human life as a developmental process and applies counselling approaches that can turn developmental difficulties into opportunities for individuals. 
• Maintains individual and professional development by adapting to social changes and professional developments. 
• Conducts scientific research related to the field, evaluates these researches and uses them in professional practice. 
• Has the ability to intervene in crisis situations in the psychological counselling process and applies the principles of crisis management. 
• Has knowledge about individual-society relations and social psychology theories and uses this knowledge to understand the behaviours of individuals. 
• Plans and implements guidance and psychological counselling services for individuals with special needs. 
• Knows the education system, curriculum programmes and organisational structures of schools and carries out guidance services within this framework. 
• Provides effective psychological counselling services to individuals and society in line with professional ethical principles by using scientific thinking skills.

Examination and assessment

ARTICLE 21 - (1) In the courses given in faculties and colleges; midterm exams, short-term exams, homework and project evaluation and final exams are held.

(2) Midterm exam places and dates are announced on the system with the approval of the head of the department and programme. Changes in the exam place and date during the midterm exam period are made with the approval of the Dean / Director. Short-term exams, homework and project evaluations other than midterm exams can be made by the relevant instructor without setting a date in advance.

(3) Students are required to take the exams on the pre-determined dates and places, and to have their identity documents and other documents to be requested with them while taking the exam.

(4) Final exams are held at the places and times determined and announced by the dean's office/directorate. The success grade to be given to a student is calculated by taking 60% of the weighted average of the grades obtained from at least one midterm exam, one homework and one quiz or project and similar studies determined at the beginning of the semester and 40% of the final exam at the end of the semester. However, the success grade of the courses given as distance education is calculated by taking 40% of the formal or controlled midterm exam and 60% of the final exam at the end of the semester. The effect rates of the activities carried out during the year and the final exam on the success grade are specified in the course descriptions in EÖBS and explained to the students by the relevant faculty member in their first lessons at the beginning of the semester. Students who score less than 30 points out of 100 points in the final exams are considered unsuccessful in the course, and a grade of FF is given without taking into account the grades received in the course.

(5) Midterm and final exams are not held for on-site practice. Only the studies and files related to this application are examined and a grade of (P) or (F) is given as a result of this examination.

(6) The success grade of the courses for which exemption exams are held is evaluated out of 100 points and converted into letter grades according to the table specified in Article 22. The determined letter grade is entered into the system and included in the average.

(7) Courses that do not require midterm and/or final exams are determined by the relevant department and programme chairmanship and approved by the relevant boards and the Senate. In this case, the final grade is evaluated by a jury consisting of three lecturers, including the relevant lecturer, taking into account the student's work during the semester, and a letter grade is given. As a result of the evaluation, except for absenteeism, (I) grade can be given to students who are incomplete and/or require correction. The provisions of subparagraph (a) of the ninth paragraph of Article 22 are applied to students in this situation. A course and its application and/or laboratory can be evaluated separately.

(8) Final grades must be entered into the system by the instructors within five working days following the date of the exam and the grade lists must be submitted to the department/programme heads and deanships/directorates. The dean or director must send original copies of all grade lists for each semester to the Registrar's Office within fifteen days following the final exams.

ARTICLE 22 - (1) For each course taken by students, the raw grade assigned by the instructor at the end of the semester is converted into the equivalent letter grade in the second paragraph within the framework of the principles to be determined by the Senate and based on relative evaluation.

(2) The coefficients of ECTS and letter grades and their equivalents over 100 points are shown below:

To monitor the quality of higher education programmes;

- YÖK is responsible for the planning, organisation, management and supervision of education and training and other activities carried out in higher education institutions.

- ‘University Monitoring and Evaluation Reports’ of higher education institutions prepared every year within the framework of the criteria determined by CoHE are published. The reports prepared according to these reports, which include quantitative and qualitative evaluations of higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK.

- Every year, YÖK publishes the ‘Foundation Higher Education Institutions Report’ containing academic, administrative and financial data of foundation higher education institutions. These reports, which include quantitative and qualitative evaluations of foundation higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK. Quality assurance of undergraduate programmes in higher education is ensured according to the ‘Procedures and Principles for Ensuring Quality Assurance of Higher Education Diploma Programmes’:

1. Creation and Approval of Curricula:

1.1. YÖK determines the minimum standards and criteria required for the opening of undergraduate departments and programmes in higher education institutions.

1.2. The curriculum of undergraduate programmes in higher education institutions and the learning outcomes to be gained by the students in each programme are determined by the senates of higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK.

1.3. The curricula of the National Core Education Programmes are adopted by the relevant Council of Deans and implemented by higher education institutions with the approval of the Council of Higher Education.

2. Assessment and Evaluation: The measurement and evaluation of the learning outcomes of each undergraduate programme is carried out according to the education, training and examination regulations prepared by higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK.

3. Certification: Students enrolled in undergraduate programmes, if they successfully complete the course credits and other obligations determined by higher education institutions; receive a bachelor's degree.

4. Self-Assessment-External Evaluation: Higher education institutions, in the context of continuous monitoring, enter the ‘Institutional Internal Evaluation Reports’ of the previous year into the Information System prepared by the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK) at the beginning of each year. YÖKAK shares the ‘Institutional Feedback Report’ prepared for the external evaluation of higher education institutions with the public. In addition, accreditation decisions issued by accreditation bodies authorised or recognised by YÖKAK also indicate that the quality assurance of the qualifications of the programmes is ensured. YÖKAK carries out regular review activities regarding the qualifications determined in accordance with the legislation.

Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Teacher Education Programmes (EPDAD)

Students who have graduated from secondary education institutions or foreign secondary education institutions approved by the Ministry of National Education and who meet the requirements for admission to undergraduate programmes (according to the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) EA score type conducted by ÖSYM for Guidance and Psychological Counselling programme) are accepted. The student must be in the first 300.000 in the EA score type.
The admission and registration of students to the undergraduate and associate degree departments of the university from domestic, foreign and in-house associate degree and undergraduate higher education programmes are carried out in accordance with the Regulation on the Principles of Transferring Between Associate Degree and Undergraduate Programmes, Double Major, Minor and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer in Higher Education Institutions published in the Official Gazette dated 24/4/2010 and numbered 27561 and other relevant legislation provisions.  
 

Students who graduate from the school can work as psychological counsellors and/or guidance teachers in public and private schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the Social Services and Child Protection Agency, the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, the Police Academy, the Turkish Armed Forces, guidance and research centres, psychological counselling and guidance centres of universities, nurseries and kindergartens, orphanages, special education centres and human resources departments of enterprises. In addition, they can work as academicians in universities by continuing their master's and doctoral programmes.
