• Having the knowledge of basic concepts and theories of sociology, their difference and inner relations within themselves, defining social phenomena and events, modelling and assesing by making analysis.
• Making sociological reasoning for social problems depending on sociological theories and methods and designing the phase of sociological research and its application.
• Using research methods and techniques as a sign of vocational qualification, making practise in the field, making sociological analysis and interpretation according to data.
• Having the necessary computer and statistical knowledge and skills for conducting a sociological research depending on both qualitative and quantitative methods.
• Providing basic concepts and principles from different fields of social sciences and using this knowledge in societal analysis.
• Having the knowledge and understanding regarding theoretical discussions including the relationships between social structures, social actors and cultures.
• Understanding the structure and function of basic social institutions/sectors and defining the problems appearing in these fields.
• Understanding dynamics of social change, tension and interaction between the rural and the urban, social stratas shaped by market conditions and social mobility and discussing their actual reflections.
• Understanding socio-cultural, socio-economic and socio-political interaction between communication, technology, media and society, and assessing and discussing their actual developments.
• Identifying institutions and meaning worlds inequally constructed by power relations depended on government and hegemony, and analysing these especially in terms of gender and women’s perspective, and developing a vision sensitive to women issues.
• By learning Turkish schools of sociology, sociological accumulation in Turkey in historical periods, following and comparing both local and international accumalation, developments and studies.
• Having philosophy-psychology-logic formation necessary for teaching of philosophy group.
• Having the skill and responsibility for following macro and micro problems in global and local level.
• Having, as a sociologist, professional ethical consciousness in both participating in social policies and social contexts, academic and field studies, and,with this knowledge and consciusness, revealing the skills of communication and use of inititatives.
• By gaining the quality of critical thinking about his/her own qualifications and him/herself, acquiring life-time learning behaviour.

The candidate must fulfill the requirements, complete the processes and take the relevant examinations, which are specified by ÖSYM and stated by the academic and the legal regulations of the university. A candidate, who is a current student in an equivalent program in either a domestic or foreign university, is allowed to apply for a lateral transfer. The acceptance of a candidate is evaluated before the semester with special inquiry of the fulfillment of the requirements and the relevant score of the exam. More information of the entrance conditions is available in the Institution Presentation Catalog.Exchange students visiting by the student exchange programs, which are approved by the university and the regulations are arranged with an agreement, are allowed take the courses in English language offered by the Department. In case of student’s competence in Turkish language and grammar, it is also allowed to register to any course offered by the Department.

Graduates may teach Sociology, Logic and Psychology classes in public or private schools licensed by the Ministry of Education after completing a graduate program (without a thesis) in education.They can find a job in public affairs with the title of sociologist.They can work as family consulter after receiving a certificate of family consultation.
